One of the keys to success both in our lives and businesses is moving out of our “comfort zone” to empowerment that creates success. In this post I will talk about what can keep you in your comfort zone and how you can begin breaking out into actions that support your success both in your business and in your life.
I recently spoke with a client who was inspired to take her business –and her life’s mission– to a whole new level. She was the owner of a hair salon and her dream was to create an eco friendly skin and hair care line that would make people feel beautiful while helping to save the environment.
My client was frustrated. Even though she was passionate about making a difference with her product line, she felt she was not making enough progress in developing it and getting it to market. For some reason she could not get focused and make her new product line enough of a priority so as a result she was not making significant progress in it’s development
When I looked at my client’s energy field, I saw a large mass of brown energy in her solar plexus. This indicated my client was stuck in a comfort zone around how she used her personal power. This comfort zone was making it emotionally difficult to move forward in taking her business to the next level.
When I described what I saw in her energy field, my client immediately recognized her that her comfort zone was being a salon owner and cutting her clients hair. She needed to begin referring clients to her other salon stylists in order to spend more time developing her product line. This comfort zone was blocking her from taking the next step in her business from being a salon owner to a product line CEO.
Here are some tips that will help you go from your comfort zone to the kind of empowerment that creates success in your business and in your life.
1) Give yourself permission to experiment
Probably the hardest part to moving out of your comfort zone is your subconscious doubts and fears can interrogate you like a worrying parent: “What will happen when you do this? What will other people think? What if you fail and make yourself look like a fool?”
An effective way to quiet your inner worry wart is to re-frame your new out of comfort zone experience as an experiment that will yield new and useful information. After all that is exactly what it is! The only way we can grow, learn and evolve is to try new experiences and do bigger and better things.
2) Continually ask yourself, what do I really want?
Nothing motivates us more to move ahead into the unknown than pure desire. Ask yourself “What do I really want and why do I want it?” Just getting in touch with deeper desires that you may have put on the back burner can be the tipping point that will spur you into new empowering action.
3) Know your empowerment serves not just you but the world
For many women, the notion of power and empowerment carries a hidden negative subconscious association. After all we see power abused in our patriarchal culture by those who wield the most power on a daily basis. Realize that stepping out of your comfort zone and into your power will serve not only you but will inspire others to see what is possible and to have the courage to do the same themselves.
4) Take it step by step
Many times what holds us back from trying something new is believing we need to have the whole process figured out before we even begin. Next time you are stuck in your comfort zone, give yourself permission to take just a first baby step into that new uncharted territory. It could be something a simple as picking up a book at the library about your subject or asking for advice from an expert about your project. Just taking that small action will signal your subconscious mind and the universe to activate forces that will help manifest your desired outcome.
5) Expand your emotional comfort zone with energy work
The primary thing that keeps us stuck in our comfort zone is those limiting beliefs and programs that hold tremendous power over how we feel. Studies have shown that 95% of our decisions, and actions are driven by not by our conscious mind but by our subconscious emotions. Next time you feel emotionally uncomfortable about moving forward with a new experience that you know would probably be good for you, try doing some energy work.
Energy work is great for releasing emotional blocks and expanding your emotional comfort zone so what once seemed intimidating or impossible feels like a piece of cake. As for my client when I described what I saw in her energy field, my client immediately realized that although on a conscious level she truly wanted it, on a subconscious level the idea of being the CEO of a successful product line made her feel very uncomfortable.
We then did some energy work to release her uncomfortable feelings around becoming the successful CEO of a successful product line.
The next time I spoke with my client, she had created her first product prototype and had gotten a meeting with an interested venture capitalist to discuss partnering with her in developing her product line.
