Probably the most important skill I have developed in my life is my ability to tap into and trust my intuition. When I began to see colors around my clients’ bodies, it was my intuition that allowed me to open to the information that I was receiving from higher guidance and so help my clients get insights and make breakthroughs.
Having skilled intuition is invaluable as an entrepreneur. It helps us to cut through overthinking and overwhelm, gets us out of analysis-paralysis, and gives us the “bigger picture” clarity that allows us to take those effective actions that grow our business and ourselves.
Here are the 5 steps to tapping into your intuition:
1) Get Quiet and Grounded
The step is to get quiet and grounded. Sit in a quiet place in a comfortable chair with your feet on the floor. Let your mind get quiet and release any extraneous thoughts. You are creating the sacred mental and physical space that will allow your intuition and guidance to enter and connect with you.
Next, ground by visualizing a grounding cord from the base of your spine going down into the center of the earth. Breathe into it. Or, if you are already somewhat grounded and relaxed, simply feel the weight of your body where it comes into contact with the seat and floor. Breathe into those areas.
2) Identify Your Choices
Now think about what you would like to get intuitive information about. Get specific about the issue and the choices that are facing you. Should I do a or b? Should I do this now or later or not? Intuition is about tuning in to what is right for you right now. Sometimes opportunities can be right for us but it is simply not yet the right time.
Delineate the various choices around the issue you want to access your intuition about. For example, say you are thinking about signing up for a certain coaching program. Your choices are: sign up now, wait and sign up later, or don’t sign up. This will give your intuitive energy something onto which it can focus and assess. Get clear on your various options, limit them to 3 or 4 at most. We will intuitively assess in step 4 but before we do that, because thinking about your various choices will inevitably put you into overthinking mode, your immediate next step is:
3) Release Tension
The next step is to release the mental tension and overthinking that frequently blocks our intuition. You can do this by releasing blocked energy from the solar plexus area. (The solar plexus chakra is the chakra that allows us to own our gifts and power.) Simply tune into any sensations of tension or constriction in your solar plexus and ask yourself, “Can I let this go?” This will help release your programmed linear mind from negatively affecting your intuitive perception. Keep releasing any sensation of blocked energy from your solar plexus until you feel lighter and more relaxed.
4) Tune in
The next step is to tune into your intuition “receptacle” — your heart center. The heart chakra is where the higher guidance for our–and everyone else’s– highest good registers in our intuitive awareness. The heart chakra is the balance center of our energy system. It’s electromagnetic field is 60X as powerful as our brain. It truly is the seat of our soul and our higher wisdom.
Tuning into the energy in this center is vital to connecting to our intuition, as our soul’s truth registers here.
Now, go back to the various options you delineated in step 2. Let’s say you have 3 options. Think of choice 1 as a ball of energy and let that ball of energy come into your heart. Now tune into your energy consciousness as sensation: how does that energy of choice 1 feel in your heart chakra. Does it feel. light or heavy? Is it an energized feeling or a dead or numb feeling?
Is there joy present or sadness or some other emotion? Just notice. Now do the same with the other choices. How does each one feel in your heart?
You are feeling how each choice affects your energy system. Which choice “feels” best?
Your higher guidance directs you to your best choice by making it feel the “best” in your heart–the lightest, the “rightest”, the most joyful. Which choice feels the best? The one that feels the best in your heart is the choice that is in alignment with your soul’s deepest needs and path.
5) Take aligned action.
The last step is to take aligned action. Write down your best choice that you determined in step 4. What first step can you take right now to bring your desired result into manifestation? It could be as simple as writing out a plan of action, sending an email, or taking out a library book. The important thing is to act on the intuitive information you have received. This signals to your subconscious–as well as your guides and angels– that you are ready and willing to listen to and respect intuitive wisdom and be supported on your soul’s path.
Remember, intuition is a muscle, the more we honor it, use it and act on it, the stronger it gets. The more you use your intuition, the more you will be inflow, and the easier things good things will happen in your life.
